INCREASING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HIV/AIDS FOR WORKERS

Until the end of October 2016, the Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) and POSCO E&C have successfully organized 11 events about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)” for officials and workers of the Hanoi pilot light metro line project section Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station. The program has grown the number of people communicated information to 314 people. After the previous communication program, most of the officials and workers involved have achieved very good result.

These communication activities about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and STIs” by the CH D and POSCO E&C for contruction workers will continue to be organized monthly in order to protect health for workers and represent the high sense of its responsibility towards the society.

Safe sex for workers

For along time, knowledges about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infection (STIs) are rarely equipped for construction workers. Understood this issue, the Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) and POSCO E&C company had implemented monthly communication activities for these workers.

With the aim for raising awareness about prevention of serious diseases, the communications program about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)“ for officials and workers of the Hanoi pilot light metro line project section Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station. On September 28^th 2016, the number of people knowing about safe sex through the program has grown to 304 people.

The program gave participants the essential information about prevention of HIV/AIDS and STIs, the preventative method and how to use condoms properly. With applying a new multi-dimensional educational method and the lively enthusiastic presentation, POSCO E&C lecturer had brought fun atmosphere for the class. While guiding how to use condom correctly, trainers played some funny clips which carry highly helpful message in order to emphasize the right attitude about using condoms to workers.

Through the program, the officials and workers had a change in the awareness and attitudes towards people with HIV and concurrently increased the ability to execute the HIV and STIs infected preventive measures. However, the level of change in perception of some participants was still not high. Therefore, the workers were encouraged to review the leaflets combined with the presentation handouts after the program to understand the means of transmission and learn how to avoid them for themselves.

These communication activities about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and STIs” by the CHD and POSCO E&C for contruction workers will continue to be organized monthly, aimed to protect health for workers and represent the high sense of responsibility towards the society.

Enhanced safe sex for workers

The monthly communication program about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is one of the important activities by the Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) implemented with the support of POSCO E&C company.

The latest event about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and STIs” with the guidance of a lecturer – Assistant Doctor Nguyen Thi Ha was successfully held in a pleasant atmostphere on August 23^rd, 2016. Until now, there have been 282 officials and workers of the Hanoi pilot light metro line project section Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station participated in this program.

The officials and workers attending the event were provided with useful information about HIV/AIDS and STIs, along with information about the clinics, tests and free condoms.

These communication activities about “Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS and STIs” will continue to be organized monthly for new workers who recently join in the Hanoi pilot light metro line project section Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station aimed enhancing awareness and reducing the risks of infection to the community nearby.

In the 24^th May 2016, at POSCO’s office, the monthly communication event on HIV/AIDS and STIs was conducted for 19 workers from three subcontractors – Hai Anh, INCICO and FECON – of the Hanoi Metro Line Project. In this fifth communication event, all of the participants knew what HIV/AIDS and STIs are and 15 out of 16 officers and workers have had better knowledge on HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention.

Till this fifth event, 238 people received training on HIV/AIDs and STIS prevention. This number will continue rising in the next following months.

The monthly communication event is co-organized by the Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) and POSCO E&C for all officers and employees involved in the bid package No.2 (CP02) of the Hanoi Pilot Light Metro Line Project, Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station Section, in order to help them raise knowledge, change attitude and behavior. Futher more, we hope they can use these knowledge to protect themselves, their families and society after this event.

Until April 19 2016, POSCO and CHD have organized five communication events on HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention for 219 workers and officials. In this fourth monthly event, 80% of the participants have had better knowledge on HIV/AIDs and STIS prevention after the event.

POSCO and CHD fulfill social responsibilities for 200 workers.

POSCO (POSCO E&C) and Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) have regularly conducted the communication event on HIV/AIDS and STIs in the last 4 months for almost 200 officials and worker from project “Hanoi Pilot Urban Railway Project, section of Nhon – Hanoi railway station” in order to fulfill their social responsibilities and provide necessary knowledge to protect workers’ health.

In the morning of 23^rd March, at POSCO’s office, No.1 Le Duc Tho Str, the third monthly communication event was conducted for workers from subcontractor Incico and subcontractor Hai Anh. In the event, workers have received informative lectures about HIV/AIDS and STIs along with free condoms and leaflets that have information about clinics and blood examination labs.

“This communication event has helped me understand and I will use it to myself to protect me and my family’s health” – Shared by a worker who took part in the event.

In order to maintain those positive profit from the event, these communication activities chain will be continually conduct in every third week of each month until the end of 2018.
