Description:
National Prevention Strategy, eliminate malaria in Vietnam 2011 – 2020 and orientation to 2030, emphasized to conduct research to improve prevention measures, malaria eradication.
Objectives:
- Identify malaria epidemiology with different levels of endemicity and populations at risk to allow more effective application of limited resources;
- Develop appropriate strategies and associated targeted interventions in order to plan and execute more effective control and elimination of malaria for specific areas.
To achieve the objectives, there are three main activities:
- Updating and optimizing the malaria surveillance system;
- Maximizing the impact of interventions through operations research;
- Quality improvement of current tools for malaria elimination.
Results:
- Obtain the initial results of the pilot implementation of an enhanced malaria surveillance system using geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial decision support systems (SDSS);
- Pursue new malaria research, with a focus on methods and tools to contain drug-resistant malaria, including novel modelling methods and operations research;
- Obtain the results of the pilot implementation of diagnostic quality: adherence to malaria treatment medication (Directly Observed Treatment – DOT), the effective dose for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria and drug-resistant malaria.
